My journey: My Veg-venture

How it all began. Four years ago, January 1st of 2014 to be exact, I decided that I wanted to challenge myself and cut all animal products out of my diet. You see, for a few years I flirted with the idea of going vegan but I couldn’t bring myself to surrender. I mean, who could possibly give up on foods that made your palate dance with joy: savory, tasty, creamy, gooey, smokey, zesty, tangy, and spicy. There was no way that foods that did not contain animal products would have the same joyful effect. Boy was I wrong; wrong on all levels.

The fact remains that if we are not educated on certain things, we will remain resistant to change and less open minded to exploration. I know and I get it. It’s hard to break away from the ways we are so accustomed too. My challenge to you is to break away from the norm and adapt to something new and exciting. Develop a positive mental aptitude, taking it one step at a time.

A year prior to my transition, I practiced a vegetarian diet. This transitionary period is what I like to consider the pivotal point of my lifestyle change. Following this diet allowed me to mentally introduce the concept of change while still being healthy. I wasn’t a vegan but I was slowly getting there. I was making better food choices. After days and nights of visiting the research department, Google that is, I decided that it was time to embark on this lifelong journey. At this point, there was no turning back. Go big or go home. May I add that this is by far the best decision I have ever made. I have made some questionable ones too, but who hasn’t. Before you begin to question my decision, let me say it wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination. Again, giving up foods that employed my taste buds to work overtime and explode with excitement was a daunting task. In essence, I made it work for me because I was willing and ready for change.

When you have finally gotten to the point where you are ready to accept change, the process will be less challenging. Trust the process they say. Trust the process. As difficult as it may seem, you have to be able to trust and understand that your decision to change your lifestyle is for your betterment. While our paths to better health may pose different challenges, I can guarantee that the feeling of euphoria you’ll experience will make this all worth the wait.

Thank you for vibing with me,
